Exhibiting at London Wine Fair and Triumph in the Wine Merchant Top 100 Competition

The London Wine Fair took place at Olympia in London earlier this week, and we were delighted to exhibit in the Esoterica section.  Selecting wines for an event like this is always tricky, but we eventually whittled the selection to the required 28 wines.

We had a selection of new listings such as the single wine estate Tenuta Gacci from Emilia Romagna and The Tongue Twister Vinho Verde from Portugal – ‘the greener green grapes are, the keener keen apes are’.

We also included some best sellers such as Big Belite Cabernet and Le Professeur Marselan – both with eye catching labels which helped to attract visitors to our stand.  Feedback from existing and prospective customers was fantastic and my colleagues Alison, Neil and I were kept very bust for all 3 days.

I was quite relieved to eventually get home at 10pm on Wednesday evening, and even happier with my first cup of Yorkshire tea (made with Yorkshire water) on Thursday morning!

One highlight of the Fair was see the results of The Wine Merchant Top 100.  This is a competition that’s only about wines that are exclusive to the independent trade. All the judges are independent merchants. And their job isn’t just to find wines that taste fantastic: they also have to represent great value for money, whatever the retail price.

This year, we were thrilled to have seven of our wines included in the Wine Merchant Top 100, and all were available to taste at The Wine Merchant stand at the fair.  Here are our seven winners with approximate retail prices:

  • Mâcon Azé, Cave de Buxy, Burgundy 2022 (£15.99)
  • Coroa d’Ouro Branco, Manoel Poças, Portugal 2021 (£11.99)
  • Rioja Vega Gran Reserva, Spain 2015 (£24.49)
  • Scotchmans Hill Shiraz, Australia 2020 (£28.99)
  • Avondale La Luna, South Africa 2016 (£27.49)
  • Marilyn Lasserre Pinot Noir - Les Argelières, Languedoc 2022 (£10.99)
  • Jordan Cabernet, California 2016 (£65)

We extend our thanks to everyone who visited our stand, tasted our wines, and gave us great feedback.

Cheers!
