In Verdigny, found just northwest of Sancerre, lies the family run estate Domaine Thomas. At 9 hectares, it is be no means a large estate and its currently run by father and son, with Julien learning to take the reins from his father Jean. It has been run by the Thomas family for over 9 generations. They share a belief in bio-dynamic wine making, so that the wines produced illustrate the terroir, and with most of the vineyards being located on Silex soil, a real premium, it completely justifies viticultural approach. Grapes are handpicked and pressed in small amounts and the results are superbly crisp Sauvignons, powerfully aromatic with a real depth of flavour and minerality. A truly fine example of what Sancerre is capable of.
