The second wine of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, a top Châteauneuf producer, whose winery sits on the site of a former telegraph station which is where the name derives from and is famous for producing wine with a highly distinctive minerality sourced from vineyards planted on the Plateau de ‘La Crau'. Produced in a very different way to “La Crau”, the blend is bolstered by the addition of grapes from 45 year old vines of Château La Roquette, Vieux Télégraphe’s sister property. This is a classic Télégramme! Drink while you wait for “La Crau” to age.

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

Domaine Vieux Télégraphe was founded over 100 years ago in 1898 by the current producer’s great grandfather, Hippolyte Brunier. Hippolyte was a farmer who originally planted less than a hectare of vines to produce wines for personal use on the La Crau Plateau, one of the highest points between Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Bédarrides. A telegraph relay tower was assembled here in 1821, due to the altitude. Little did they know that the decision to do so would coincide with the naming of one of the wine world’s most famous and revered Domaines.

Grapes are fully destemmed before traditional 12 day fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. 9 months ageing in concrete tanks followed by 6 months in oak foudres.
