Chateau Prince

Chateau Prince was founded as a fortress in the late 11th Century, situated on a unique shale and slate hill that looks east overlooking the tiny river Aubance, south of Angers. The current house sits on the foundations of this first castle. Destroyed by fires in the latter part of the 17th century, the estate has passed from owner to owner until 2002, when friends Mathias Levron and Regis Vincenot purchased the estate and surrounding vineyards with a view to producing the best wine possible from Chenin Blanc, in the middle vineyards of the Loire region.

Nose of peach, baked apple and fresh grapefruit, with rich minerals overtones. The palate is dry, complex and quite intense, showing citrus white fruits, lime leaf, slatey, mineral-like notes and a burst of peach. The finish goes on and on.

Hand picked and sorted, with the grapes cooled then pressed to obtain the best juice. A high proportion of free run juice is used and gentle pneumatic pressing only. Fermented in steel tank at a cool temperature, cirac 15C, for around 12 days, followed by racking into used oak foudres. A full malolactic is undeergone in the spring, then bottled.
