A region of around 4,500 acres, spread across several important wine appellations, and lying to the east of Angers, astride the mighty Loire River. Benefiting from both Maritime and mild Continental climates, this region excels at still and sparkling wines, using predominantly Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc grapes for white and sparkling wines, with varying amounts of Cabernet France, Pinot Noir, Gamay and Pinot Noir for reds and rose. The soil is predominantly limestone with some chalk, schist and clay, and the yields are generally a little higher, around 60hl/ha across most regions. Smaller yields are the norm, especially for sweeter wines, or single climat estates.
