An aromatic white grape from the Rueda region of western Spain, Verdejo has been used to produce fine dry white wines of moderate acidity and high flavour since the 1970s. Verdejo vines grow best in drier soils, which is why the grape flourishes in the high-altitude vineyards of Rueda. Verdejo wines are often smooth and creamy, with a nutty undertone and refreshing aftertaste. Although it was an obscure, lesser-known grape for many years, Verdejo has grown in prominence and is now one of Spain’s premier white wine grape varieties.
