This Merlot, of French origin, has been grown in Trentino for many years with excellent results. It thrives especially in the foothills and valley vineyards of Südtirol. To express its full potential, it needs a stony soil, loose and not particularly fertile, to encourage early ripening.

Cantina Lavis

The Cantina La-Vis winery is situated in the heart of Trentino and dates back to 1850 when it was founded by the Cembran family. The production area is comprised of vineyards located in Trentino but extends from the hills of Meano, La-Vis and Sorni, with some plots in South Tyrol, as well as the emblematic terracing of the Valle di Cembra up to Isera in Vallagarina. Since 1948 it has been run as a cooperative, when 14 independent wine-makers initially began this endeavour establishing the core of the modern production unit we see today. LaVis Merlot typically has a rich ruby colour and an elegant bouquet reminiscent of blackberry and plum. Full-bodied and well balanced, it lingers on the palate.

Manual harvesting started in early October, fermentation at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks, static decantation of the wine for 48 hours, malolactic fermentation in fibreglass reinforced concrete tanks, ageing on the lees for approximately 5/6 months, 90% in concrete tanks and 10% in French oak barrels that are 3rd or 4th use.
