Cave de Buxy

Founded in 1931 by 98 small family grape growers and winemakers, the Caves de Buxy, based in the warm hinterlands of the Cote Chalonnaise in Southern Burgundy, has now grown to 120 family growers covering some 2,000 ha of vines spread across several appellations within both Maconnais and Chalonnaise. Buxy’s strive for quality is apparent from every level. The winemaker, Alan Pierre, visits every vineyard and his team oversee quality of grapes during the season, from Bud Break to ripening and vintaging. The nose is very appealing, notes of buttered apple, pear and floral characters. There is a distinct nuttiness which sits perfectly alongside the marked freshness and streaks of tropical fruit.
100% Chardonnay, sourced from the members vineyards spread though Macon with a percentage from Pouilly Fuisse and St Veran. Machine harvested with around 20% hand picked. Traditional winemaking, the grapes are destemmed, sorted and pressed pneumatically. The juice is fermenetd in steel tanks at a cool 15C for around 12 days. Maturation in stainless steel tanks on fine lees in order to bring body and texture. Bottled after 3 months in tank.
