Touriga Nacional is a Portuguese red grape frequently used in the production of port, although when it is used in varietal wines it is usually blended with other, lighter grapes. The high skin to pulp ratio of Touriga Nacional grapes means they are highly tannic with a good structure and acidic taste when used in wines. When fortified and used in port, however, the grape adopts a fruity, sweet taste and compliments grapes like Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz.
