Jordan Vineyard & Winery

The name of Jordan is synonymous with Californian wine. Founded in 1972 by self-proclaimed Francophiles Tom and Sally Jordan, whose many visits to the Chateaux of Bordeaux convinced them that they could make wines of similar breeding and terroir-led elegance in cool areas around the Napa and its surrounds, if only they could find the right dirt, and the right people. Their search led them to the cool Alexander Valley, north of Napa itself, where proximity to the Pacific ocean and its beneficial cooling gave hope that their grapes would ripen slowly and give the much needed freshness and minerality.

“Aromas of black cherries wrapped in a spice box of nutmeg, clove and allspice jump from the glass. The palate is filled with flavors of black currants and plum that lead seamlessly to silky tannins and black cherry notes. Blackberry, Mission fig and black cherry notes linger on the finish. The combination of elegance and intensity make it a fitting vintage to celebrate 40 years of Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon”.

The vineyards are broken into a myriad of at least 20 separate blocks, each picked and fermeted separately. Once harvested, the grapes are optically sorted, cooled and destemmed. Fermentation is in temperature controlled steel tanks, with each vineyard block fermented as an individual wine. After 10 days the wine is transferred into new and used French oak ( 100% ) to finish fermentation. Racking takes place in the Spring, and the wine benefits from 18 months in 100% French oak, with barrels hand-picked.

Wine Merchant Top 100, 2024: "Very much Californian, but this is a wine of genuine elegance and finesse, and the bottle age brings a delicious softness and savouriness." Silver Medal - London Wine Competition 2022. Named 'The Best Vineyard in North America 2023' by World's Best Vineyards
