Barbera is a red Italian wine grape variety which is planted extensively in Piedmont and south-west Lombardy, accounting for over 50% of the wine produced in the region. Typically, Barbera wine has high acidity, a deep ruby colour and a full body, with low tannins & berrylike flavours. The best known Barbera is the DOCG of Barbera d'Asti.
