Primitivo is one of Southern Italy's leading red grapes whose origins date back to the 18th century. Primitivo wine production is now focused around Puglia and Campania where classic Primitivo wines are high in both alcohol and tannins, intensely flavoured with wild berries and deeply coloured. Recent research has identified Zinfandel in California to be an exact replica of Primitivo.
