Jordan Vineyard & Winery

The name of Jordan is synonymous with Californian wine. Founded in 1972 by self-proclaimed Francophiles Tom and Sally Jordan, whose many visits to the Chateaux of Bordeaux convinced them that they could make wines of similar breeding and terroir-led elegance in cool areas around the Napa and its surrounds, if only they could find the right dirt, and the right people. Their search led them to the cool Alexander Valley, north of Napa itself, where proximity to the Pacific ocean and its beneficial cooling gave hope that their grapes would ripen slowly and give the much needed freshness and minerality.

Black cherry, raspberry and clove aromas mingle beautifully with subtle hints of vanilla. The palate has a velvety richness that coats the mouth in concentrated flavors of black cherries, blackberries and a hint of nutmeg.
Enjoy with herb crusted lamb.
The vineyards are broken into a myriad of at least 20 separate blocks, each picked and fermeted separately. Once harvested, the grapes are optically sorted, cooled and destemmed. Fermentation is in temperature controlled steel tanks, with each vineyard block fermented as an individual wine. After 10 days the wine is transferred into new and used French oak ( 100% ) to finish fermentation. Racking takes place in the Spring, and the wine benefits from 18 months in 100% French oak, with barrels hand-picked.

Wine & Spirits | December 2021 Year’s Best U.S. Cabernets, 92 points “Cherry kirsch and allspice introduce this wine, giving it the sensibility of a gangly adolescent. That lean and awkward moment passes as oxygen has its way with the wine, enriching it, bringing depths to its notes of exotic dried fruits, emphasizing the floral complexity of a clean young cabernet. This is destined to age with grace.” Decanter | September 2021 95 points “...The wine is impressively fresh, with ripe blackberry, lofty purple florals and sweet cedar aromas courtesy of ageing in 100% French oak. Fine-grained yet grippy tannins coat the full-bodied palate, packed with unctuous layers of blue and black fruits, tobacco, violets and graphite through a cocoa-dusted finish. A real standout from a challenging vintage.”
