Jordan Vineyard & Winery

The name of Jordan is synonymous with Californian wine. Founded in 1972 by self-proclaimed Francophiles Tom and Sally Jordan, whose many visits to the Chateaux of Bordeaux convinced them that they could make wines of similar breeding and terroir-led elegance in cool areas around the Napa and its surrounds, if only they could find the right dirt, and the right people. Their search led them to the cool Alexander Valley, north of Napa itself, where proximity to the Pacific ocean and its beneficial cooling gave hope that their grapes would ripen slowly and give the much needed freshness and minerality.

Black cherry, raspberry and clove aromas mingle beautifully with subtle hints of vanilla. The palate has a velvety richness that coats the mouth in concentrated flavors of black cherries, blackberries and a hint of nutmeg.
Enjoy with herb crusted lamb.
The vineyards are broken into a myriad of at least 20 separate blocks, each picked and fermeted separately. Once harvested, the grapes are optically sorted, cooled and destemmed. Fermentation is in temperature controlled steel tanks, with each vineyard block fermented as an individual wine. After 10 days the wine is transferred into new and used French oak ( 100% ) to finish fermentation. Racking takes place in the Spring, and the wine benefits from 18 months in 100% French oak, with barrels hand-picked.

Wine Merchant Magazine, California Collection, March 2025: "One of the biggest names in the Alexander Valley, Jordan has always looked to Bordeaux as a model, an influence that can be seen in the emphasis the winery places on the importance of ageing. With one of the best-stocked cellars in California, the company is able to release wines with the benefit of bottle age - such as this 2017 vintage. "Gorgeous," the judges said. "A Cab that doesn't hit you in the mouth but instead takes you on an elegant journey through dark fruit and spice."
